We are a professional organization for registered nurses and affiliated members employed
in emergency settings. Involvement in ENA reflects a commitment to to nursing practice and quality emergency
care. The efforts of emergency nurses throughout the commonwealth of Virginia have had a positive influence
on our profession and on patient outcomes.
ENA is a professional member organization recognized internationally for promoting excellence in emergency nursing through leadership, research, education, and advocacy.
ENA Exists:
- To promote the specialty of emergency nursing.
- To promote the interests of ENA’s members and to improve the professional environment of the emergency nurse through education and public awareness.
- To promote ethical principles as defined in the ENA Code of Ethics for Emergency Nurses and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
- To actively collaborate with other health related organizations to improve emergency care.
- To be the primary resource for emergency nursing leadership, education, and research.
- To define standards that serve as a basis for emergency nursing practice.
- To develop, disseminate and evaluate emergency nursing education and research.
- To encourage interaction and mentorship among emergency nurses.
- To identify and disseminate information on key trends affecting and pertinent to emergency nursing.
- To serve as an advocate for the public regarding emergency care.
- The emergency nurse acts with compassion and respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of the individual.
- The emergency nurse maintains competence within, and accountability for, emergency nursing practice.
- The emergency nurse acts to protect the individual when health care and safety are threatened by incompetent, unethical or illegal practice.
- The emergency nurse exercises sound judgement in responsibility, delegating, and seeking consultation.
- The emergency nurse respects the individual's right to privacy and confidentiality.
- The emergency nurse works to improve public health and secure access to health care for all.
ENA leads the way in knowledge, resources, and responsiveness for emergency nurses, their patients and families.
